City Departments

The City's Public Buildings Department is responsible for maintaining a total of 48 City-owned buildings. Action plans are developed to address potential equipment failures and deficiencies. In addition, technical and custodial services are provided to other City-related groups and functions, such as: Recreational Department events, Harlingen Area Chamber of Commerce, Harlingen Consolidated Independent School District, Valley International Airport, Texas State Technical College, Harlingen Downtown Improvement District, RioFest, Christmas Lighting, Harlingen Proud, ground-breaking ceremonies. Other operations include custodial services, construction projects, plumbing installation and repairs, electrical installation and repairs, computer line installation and remodeling of City structures, as well as providing personnel and facilities for emergency shelters in the event of a disaster. Assistance is also provided to anyone interested in renting one of the available city owned buildings.
