Harlingen Arts & Heritage Museum
is one of a kind here in the Rio Grande Valley, in that we have
three important historical buildings, Lon C. Hill’s original home,
the Paso Real (Stagecoach Inn), & Harlingen’s First Hospital. Aside
from the Historic structures we also have the HAHM Historic Museum,
& our main building which houses Temporary Exhibits.
The Lon C. Hill home, is the home of the founder of Harlingen. The first floor of this two story historic home is open to the public. Get a glimpse of life at the turn of the century and find out how the family hid from bandits during the raids.
The Paso Real, a great example of a real stagecoach Inn that existed on the banks of the Arroyo Colorado. Relive the experience of buying a ticket for a long trip on a stagecoach, renting a room for the night before moving on, and send a letter to cousin Mary, telling her of your run-ins with Bandits.
Visitors will view a doctor’s office, reception room, operating room, pharmacy, two patients’ room, library, a birthing room and two baths. Authentic medical equipment, furniture and clothing complete this recreation of an early Twentieth Century hospital.
Originally the Air Police Station & Brig of the Harlingen Air Force Base, now houses our permanent collection of Harlingen and Texas historical artifacts and Provides a history of Harlingen
