Responsible for financial development, fundraising, acquisition and enhancement of museum resources.

 

Membership:

 The Harlingen Arts & Heritage Museum Board shall consist of nine (9) members. Each appointee to the Board shall be at least 18 years of age and must reside or work or operate a business within the city limits.  The Mayor and Commission shall each appoint a member to serve on the Board for a total of six (6) members.  The Board members themselves shall elect, by majority vote, three (3) members who must meet the age and residency requirements.  The Board members shall also appoint two (2) alternates who shall attend the meetings, participate in the discussion and vote only if his or her presence is needed for a quorum.  A quorum shall consist of five (5) members.  All appointees must be of good moral character and demonstrate an interest in the general welfare of the city.  The terms of office of the current members of the Harlingen arts & Heritage Museum Board shall expire on December 18, 2004.  Thereafter the Mayor and each Commissioner shall appoint one (1) member to the Board who meets the age and city residency requirements.  The Board will also appoint three (3) members to the Board who meet the age and City residency requirements.  The Board will also appoint three (3) members to the Board who meet the age and City residency requirements.  The Board members will then draw lots to determine who will serve on (1) year terms, who will serve two (2) year terms and who will serve three (3) year terms.  No Board member may serve more than two (2) consecutive terms.  IN the event the Museum Board elected the member, the Board itself shal then elect replacement who shall serve the remaining term of the vacating Board member.  The Museum Board shall elect from its membership a chairman, who shall not vote, except when necessary to break a tie.  Each appointee shall continue to serve until a successor is appointed.  An appointee shall forfeit his or her office if such appointee fails, without valid excuse, to attend three (3) consecutive meetings.  The City Manager and Museum Director shall serve as ex-officio Board members.
