City Departments

Harlingen Public Library is a practical resource facility for individual citizens to borrow and use materials for personal educational enhancement and to complement and supplement our citizens' formal education.  More than a thousand visitors daily use the library's new automated catalog, multimedia resources, the Internet, online periodical databases, and over 140,000 books, magazines, audio and videocassettes available for circulation.   Our patrons also take advantage of the many story hours, children's programs, and the many instructional programs available for adults.  The library has continually been accredited by the Texas State Library and is a full member of the South Texas Library System.  It also has membership in the Amigos Network for fast interlibrary loan service and the Valley Information Alliance, a nineteen-member Valley Library consortium providing Internet Service. 




To provide a positive learning environment in which patrons can have access to a variety of resources which will assist them with their information needs and their constructive and
creative use of leisure and recreational time. 


Services offered:

·  General information in reference services, periodical databases, internet, etc.
 
·  Children’s programming such as holiday programs, story hour, & puppet shows
 
·  Adult programming such as author programs, tax assistance, & basic computer
   instruction

·  Local historical archival information
